Adobe, the leading software company, has announced a series of new AI-powered features for its Acrobat PDF software.
The company's AI model, known as Adobe Firefly, makes it possible for users to create and edit images directly in PDFs using AI-generated image capabilities. With this new Edit Image feature, users can enhance existing images by utilizing capabilities such as Generative Fill, Remove Background, Erase, and Crop.
Furthermore, the Generate Image feature allows users to create new images from text prompts.
According to the announcement, "Acrobat is the first PDF solution to offer in-app generative image capabilities." The company aims to empower users by providing them with tools to transform their PDFs and make them visually compelling.
Adobe has also made advancements in its Acrobat AI Assistant, a chatbot that allows users to interact with their documents, allowing users to ask questions, gain insights, and create content from information found in groups of PDFs and other document types.
Beforehand, the assistant could analyze only one document at once. Now the AI Assistant's insights come fully cited, allowing users to verify the source of information. Moreover, the AI Assistant is able to transform insights into different content formats such as emails.
The meeting transcript capabilities of the AI Assistant have also been enhanced. Users can now benefit from generative summaries that include main highlights and tasks to be done and discussed during meetings.
User Benefits and Accessibility Enhancements
To promote the adoption of these new features, Adobe has made them available to individual Acrobat Standard and Pro customers at no additional cost. Users will receive 250 generative credits per month for a limited time, which can be used with the Edit Image and Generate Image features.
Adobe is offering free access to all Acrobat AI Assistant features from June 18 to June 28. During this period users are allowed to explore the capabilities of the AI Assistant and make the most of its functionalities.
Afterward, free Reader users and paid Acrobat users will have the option to purchase an AI Assistant add-on subscription at an early-access price.
Security and Responsiveness Concerns
Adobe emphasizes its commitment to security and safety when it comes to using generative AI models. The company asserts that its generative AI models are not trained on customer data but rather on licensed, moderated content.
Adobe also claimed that Content Credentials will be automatically linked to all content produced using Firefly-powered tools.
In light of the generative AI output of the AI Assistant in Reader and Acrobat, which relies on user-provided documents, Adobe encourages users to engage with the features responsibly.
